How to Wear Hijab

What is Hijab?

A hijab or ḥijāb is a veil that covers the head and chest, which is particularly worn by some Muslim women beyond the age of puberty in the presence of adult males outside of their immediate family and non muslims. It can further refer to
any head, face, or body covering worn by Muslim women that conforms to a certain standard of modesty. While it is commonly associated with women, Muslim men also sometimes wear a head covering as a means of showing modesty.

Hijab is a way of life

Wearing hijab is not just covering your head; it involves dressing up in such a way that it covers your body properly. It’s a way of life. Hijab is never meant to reduce women’s freedom rather it is symbol of women’s dignity and independence. It liberates women from vain show off of her beauty and competing with others for nothing.Rather having a proper Islamic dress code boasts desire to walk on the path of righteousness, which is the path of Islam. Allah knows what is best for His creation.

  1. For Muslim women, COVERING THE HEAD IS NOT THE SIGN OF DEGRADATION or oppression. It is a commandment from Allah, who is not male or female, and thus, would not discriminate against women, a segment of His creation.
  2. Rather, HEAD-COVERING IS A SIGN OF PURITY AND DIGNITY. It highlights the Muslim woman as a pure, chaste woman and sets her apart from the immoral behavior associated with women who dress immodestly.
  3. IT IS A SORT OF “SCREEN” BETWEEN THE CHASTE MUSLIM WOMAN AND THE EVIL THAT EXISTS IN THE WORLD. When a woman wears a hijab she is less likely to be harassed by men with lusty motives; SHE IS LESS LIKELY TO BE EXPLOITED FOR HER BEAUTY AND FEMINITY.
  4. IT allows a woman to move about outside the confines of her home WITH HER ATTENTION ON THE TASKS SHE HAS SET OUT TO DO. The Muslim woman does not try to impress anyone but Allah when outside of her home.

I have collected some tutorials on wearing different hijab styles. If you are looking for new ways to try it, this post is for you. Read it and don;t forget to share with others (images source stylearena).

  1. Hi. I work with a muslim woman and have always wondered about why she dresses so. It’s very beautiful on here. But when you say that her dress sets her apart from immodesty, are you talking about a religious sense or just a personal moral? I don’t wear a head covering or long sleeves and skirts and still believe that I dress completely modest. I do not bear anything from shoulders to my knees. Is the understanding of muslim modesty based on their faith? Thanks.

    • Hello Sarah, thank you for you comment. Yes I’m talking about religious sense.

A complete dress code can be find here.
